### Response Parameters

| Field   | Type   | Description                             |
| ------- | ------ | --------------------------------------- |
| jsonrpc | string | JSON-RPC protocol version ("2.0")       |
| id | string | Request identifier matching the request |
| result | string | Current gas price in wei (hexadecimal) |

### Use Case

The `eth_gasPrice` method is essential for:

* Transaction fee estimation
* Gas price monitoring for optimal timing
* DeFi protocol cost calculations
* Wallet gas price suggestions
* Transaction prioritization strategies
* Cost comparison with other L2s

### Error Handling

| Status Code | Error Message | Cause                           |
| ----------- | ------------- | ------------------------------- |
| 403         | Forbidden     | Missing or invalid ACCESS-TOKEN |

import { ethers } from 'ethers';

const provider = new ethers.JsonRpcProvider('https://go.getblock.io/<ACCESS-TOKEN>/');

const feeData = await provider.getFeeData();
console.log('Gas Price:', ethers.formatUnits(feeData.gasPrice, 'gwei'), 'gwei');
```
{% endcode %}
{% endtab %}
{% tab title="Viem" %}
{% code title="viem.js" %}
```javascript
import { createPublicClient, http, formatGwei } from 'viem';
import { mantle } from 'viem/chains';

const client = createPublicClient({
    chain: mantle,
    transport: http('https://go.getblock.io/<ACCESS-TOKEN>/')
});

const gasPrice = await client.getGasPrice();
console.log('Gas Price:', formatGwei(gasPrice), 'gwei');
```
