# eth\_blockNumber - zkSync

Example code for the eth\_blockNumber JSON-RPC method. Сomplete guide on how to use eth\_blockNumber JSON-RPC in GetBlock.io Web3 documentation.

Returns the number of the most recent L2 block on zkSync Era. With \~1 second block times, this is the standard way to poll for new blocks. Note: L2 blocks are grouped into L1 batches — use `zks_L1BatchNumber` for batch-level tracking.

## Use Cases

## Error Handling

| Status Code | Error Message     | Cause                                       |
| ----------- | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| 403         | Forbidden         | Missing or invalid `<ACCESS-TOKEN>`         |
| -32602      | Invalid params    | Request parameters are missing or malformed |
| 429         | Too Many Requests | Rate limit exceeded for your plan           |
