# web3\_sha3 - AVAX

Returns the Keccak-256 hash of the given input data. Use it to compute event signatures, function selectors, or hashes for off-chain validation. Despite the name `sha3`, the algorithm is Keccak-256, not standard SHA-3.

## Use Cases

* Computing event topic hashes (e.g. `Transfer(address,address,uint256)`)
* Computing function selectors (first 4 bytes of method signature hash)
* Off-chain hash validation against on-chain data
